Stains for hematology and microbiology

The stains used in Bacteriology are used to help the morphological visualization of bacteria, which due to their insignificant size are practically transparent.

Differential methods make it possible to distinguish bacteria belonging to different staining groups.

The Gram method differentiates bacteria into two large groups according to the color they acquire with the staining, purple for gram positives and pink for gram negatives. This property is conditioned by the different composition of the cell wall of both groups. It is advisable to carry out the staining from young cultures (24-36 h).

Exclusive use as a laboratory reagent. It is supplied with an explanatory leaflet of the instructions for use. Presented in amber PET bottles and white polyethylene caps with seal.

GRAM DIFFERENTIAL COLOR:

Method:

  • Take a clean and degreased slide (eg codes B100002, B100003, etc., catalog general)
  • Make a fine and homogeneous spread. It can be made directly from a culture in broth, from a bacterial suspension obtained by homogenizing 1-2 colonies in solution saline, or from a direct sample from a patient.
  • Let dry and fix the extension, passing the slide over the flame of a Bunsen burner.

Avoid overheating.

  • Place the slide on a staining rack (eg code S003, S002; general cat.)
  • Stain the smear by flooding the slide with crystal violet (stain A) for 1 minute.
  • Wash with water with the help of a washing bottle (ex. Code 443000, 191638)
  • Kit 805000:
  • 806030 = lugol 250 ml.
  • 805040 = gentian violet 250 ml.
  • 805001 = 250 ml differential coloring.
  • 805050 = 250 ml sphranine solution.
